Bears drop opener to nationally ranked Lynn


BOCA RATON, FL – Following a stalemate of a first half, the #19 Lynn Fighting Knights put in four unanswered goals in the second half to take down Lenoir-Rhyne 4-0 in the Bears’ season opener.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

  • Despite Lynn out shooting Lenoir-Rhyne 10-2 in the first half, the teams went into the break tied at 0-0.
  • Raul Canas and Daniel Martinez recorded the only shots of the half for the Bears.
  • Lynn opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 49th minute.
  • The Fighting Knights scored three goals from the 67th to the 74th minute to put the game away.
  • LR received two yellow cards in the match, while Lynn was given five yellows and a red.
  • LR was out shot 18-4, with Lynn holding a 9-2 edge in shots-on-goal
  • Junior Cathal Carney notched five saves in the game

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Eight of the 11 starters were making their first start for the Bears.
  • Nine players made their first appearance
  • This was the first ever matchup between the Bears and Fighting Knights

UP NEXT: LR continues their Florida trip on Wednesday when they travel to Fort Lauderdale, FL, to take on Nova Southeastern in their home opener. The Bears have a 0-2-1 record against the Sharks, most recently falling in a 1-0 contest last year in Hickory. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
